SSC CGL Syllabus-How To Use This Syllabus as a Guide
9 min readSSC CGL Syllabus:-SSC CGL Tier I exam, which is conducted online, includes 4 sections – General Awareness, General Intelligence and Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and English Language. Each section carries 50 marks, which means that a total of 200 marks is allotted for this exam. Total time allotted for this exam is 60 minutes.

- 5 marks will be deducted for each wrong attempt.

Negative Marking: There will be negative marking of 0.5 marks for each wrong answer in the Tier I exam.

#1. Reading Comprehension
- Types: Passages based on any topic. Questions are mostly fact based & can be directly picked out of the passage. Sometimes vocabulary questions are asked on commonly used words.

#2. Fill in the Blanks
- Types: A mix of grammar and vocabulary based questions. Important topics: Phrasal verbs, conjunctions, prepositions, tenses, usage in context, confusable words

#3. Spellings
- Types: Choose the correctly spelt word or the misspelled word from different words. The same word can be
spelt in different ways and you are asked to select the correct spelling. - Weightage: 0-2 Qs

#4. Phrase or Idiom Meaning
- Types: The meaning of the phrase or idiom can be asked in a sentence. The meaning can also be asked directly.
- Weightage: 0-2 Qs
- Level: Moderate to High Score Possible, Moderately Time Consuming, Moderate to High Accuracy Possible
#5. One Word Substitution
- Types: Substitute one word for the phrase given.Go through a list of the one word substitutions from past papers and solve questions on one word substitution.

#6. Phrase Replacement/ Sentence Correction
- Types: A mix of grammar and vocabulary Based questions.Important Topics: Tenses, Subject-Verb Agreement, Article-Noun Agreement, Correct Part of Speech, Correct use of Prepositions, Parallelism, Phrasal Verbs, Sentence Construction, Degree of Comparison, Correct use of different parts of speech, Easily confusable words, Usage in Context, Avoid guessing too much in these questions. Be aware of no-improvement questions

#7. Error Spotting
- Types: Tenses, Subject-Verb Agreement, Article-Noun Agreement, Correct Part of Speech, Correct use of Prepositions, Parallelism, Phrasal Verbs, Sentence Construction, Degree of Comparison, Correct use of different parts of speech.
- Weightage: 3-5 Qs

- Types: Basic Linear Equations in one or two variables, Quadratic & Algebraic Identities are important. Remember all the identities

- Types: 1 or 2 Matrix of letters with numbers are given from which correct set of numbers for given word is to find out.

- Types: From the given word find whether the given option words can be formed or not.

- Types: It can be a meaningful order of doing a certain task, or following a certain rule.In dictionary order words are to be arranged according to dictionary sequence in ascending or descending order.

#8. Venn diagram
- Types: Problems based on Venn Diagram Types of Question: Represent the relation between Student, Teacher and Boys, Syllogisms.

#9. Directions & Distances
- Types: Simple problems that can be solved by just drawing all information on paper.

#14. Verbal Reasoning
- Types: Questions on Statements and Conclusions, Statements and Inferences, Statements and Assumptions, Assertion and Reason. Questions on Course of Action & Statements and Arguments can also be asked.

- Level: May be tricky, Sometimes a bit Difficult, Time Consuming
SSC CGL Tier II Syllabus 2019
Those aspirants who have cleared the Tier I exam would appear for Tier II exam.
Tier II exam consists of the following sections – Quantitative Ability, English language, Statistics and General Studies. Each section consists of 200 marks and time allotted for each section is 2 hours. As you can see, the syllabus of Tier I and Tier II are almost same but Tier II exam is much difficult to crack.

- For handicapped candidates, 2 hours 40 minutes would be allotted for each section.

SSC CGL Tier III Syllabus 2019
Tier III exam is conducted in an offline mode. This is a descriptive paper in English or Hindi. This section generally includes essay writing, formal letter writing, informal letter writing, etc. It carries a total of 100 marks and total time allotted is 60 minutes.
Note:
- For handicapped candidates, time allotted is 80 minutes.
- Tier I and Tier II are compulsory for all the SSC CGL aspirants. Tier III exam is optional. It is attempted only by the aspirants who apply for Junior Statistical Officer.
SSC CGL Tier IV Syllabus 2019
SSC CGL Tier IV exam includes two tests:

Data Entry Speed Test
- This test is conducted to test the typing speed of the candidates.
- The candidates are required to type a paragraph on the computers.
- Time allotted is 15 minutes

Computer Proficiency Test
- This test is conducted to test the skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
- Time duration: 45 minutes
Note:
This exam is optional. It is to be attempted only by the aspirants who have applied for the post of TA, CSS, MEA and Inspector.
How to Use this Syllabus as a Guide
- While preparing for the exam, keep the weightages and breadth of topic in mind.
- Work from top to bottom of the list in each section of SSC CGL Syllabus while preparing.
- In Round 1 of your preparation, distribute time according to the weightage while studying for each topic.
- In Round 2 of your preparation, distribute time according to order in which the topics are listed.
- Follow a proper study guide for every subject.
